Rose McGowan is an author, actress, model and activist. She started her career with several film roles in the mid-90’s, before appearing on British and American television and becoming known for her writing and activism work.
With breakthrough performances in films such as The Doom Generation, Scream and Jawbreaker, McGowan quickly moved into mainstream entertainment. She landed roles in the supernatural drama Charmed and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse, before starring in a series of independent films including Fifty Dead Men Walking and Conan the Barbarian. By now she had become a household name, and also took on small TV roles in dramas such as Nip/Tuck and Law and Order. McGowan went on to make her directorial debut with Dawn, a short film which premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
Outside of her varied TV and film career, McGowan has become known as a key part of the Me Too movement, speaking out and taking action in high profile sexual assault cases. She released her memoir, Brave, in 2018 which recounts her experience with now disgraced film director Harvey Weinstein. She won the Inspiration Award at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in the same year and appeared in a four part documentary following her role in the movement. She is an activist for LGBT and women’s rights, and has been outspoken in her opinions on a range of political and social topics.
