American actress Julie Lake is known for her role as an inmate in award-winning prison drama Orange is the New Black.
After majoring in theatre at college, Lake went on to star in several stage shows in New York such as Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and Heddatron. She worked closely with one of the writers of Orange is the New Black, Nick Jones, throughout her years in the New York scene, and was encouraged by him to audition for the show. She landed the role of drug addict inmate Angie Rice, playing the part for four years and five seasons of the programme. During her time with the show, Orange is the New Black was awarded two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast. The programme became a fan favourite, and was one of the most highly anticipated releases of the last 10 years. Since leaving the prison drama, Lake has gone on to create two web series called George and Julie, and Mental, in which she also stars. She is a member of Los Angeles improvisational group Top Bunk, and regularly performs at clubs and venues including The Groundlings, UCB, and the Comedy Central Stage.
