American actor Cameron McKendry has known that acting and entertaining were his destiny since the age of three. After training as a dancer, he moved fully into acting during his teens and now lives in Los Angeles, the epicentre of the American movie industry. To date, he has played a wide variety of roles but is perhaps best known for appearing in the controversial 2016 movie I’m Not Ashamed and two episodes of The Fosters, an award-winning ABC drama that attracted praise for its handling of LGBT themes.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1996, McKendry was accepted into the local Shaker Dance Academy when he was just eight years old. The following year, he added acting to his repertoire, appearing in local productions. When he was 14, he moved into on-screen acting, beginning to appear in short indie films and commercials. He took the leap and moved over 2,000 miles east to Los Angeles, hoping to break into the film industry. In 2016, he got his first real break, playing Mike Joss in Madtown, an action drama that, ironically, was filmed in Cleveland. This was followed with the role of Alex Dickerson in I’m Not Ashamed, a biopic of Rachel Scott, one of the victims of the Columbine High School shooting and a devout Christian. The film gained some notoriety when YouTube pulled the official trailer from its site.
The years since have seen McKendry become increasingly busy, with roles in films as diverse as The Pastor, Lady Driver, and Song of the Tree Fogs recently added to his resume, there’s no sign of that changing any time soon.
