Lau, a British folk band formed in 2005, has emerged as a leading force in the modern folk music scene. Comprising talented musicians Kris Drever, Martin Green, and Aidan O’Rourke, Lau has captivated audiences with their innovative sound and electrifying performances. Their debut album, “Lightweights and Gentlemen,” released in 2007, garnered critical acclaim and won the prestigious “Best Group” award at the BBC Folk Awards, a title they successfully defended for two consecutive years.

Building on their early success, Lau continued to push the boundaries of folk music with their sophomore album, “Arc Light,” in 2009. This album showcased their unique blend of traditional and contemporary influences, further solidifying their reputation as pioneers in the genre. Their live performances, including notable appearances at major festivals like the Winnipeg Folk Festival, have earned them enthusiastic reviews and a dedicated fan base.

In 2012, Lau released “Race the Loser,” which featured their signature sound and innovative arrangements. Their collaboration with renowned artists, such as Karine Polwart on the EP “Evergreen,” exemplifies their commitment to artistic growth and exploration. The band’s ability to seamlessly integrate various musical styles has set them apart in the folk music landscape.

Most recently, Lau’s album “Midnight and Closedown,” produced by John Parish in 2019, has further showcased their evolution as artists. With a discography that includes five studio albums and multiple live recordings, Lau continues to inspire and engage audiences worldwide, solidifying their status as a cornerstone of the modern folk boom.
