The fantastic NewJeans are a South Korean girl group made up of five members: Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. They were formed by ADOR in 2022, and released their debut single, Attention, later that same year. Before debuting with NewJeans, several group members were already active in the entertainment industry. Danielle was a regular cast member of the tvN variety show Rainbow Kindergarten, while Hyein was a member of the children’s music group U.SSO in 2017 under the stage name U.Jeong, and was later with music group and the PocketTV YouTube collective Play With Me Club. Hanni and Minji had made cameo appearances in a number of music videos.
ADOR launched their new girl group to the public in July 2022 with their debut single, Attention. This was quickly followed by Hype Boy, which became the longest-running song on the Billboard Global 200 chart by a K-pop female act, charting for 35 weeks, and was later certified platinum. Their third single, Cookie, was quickly followed by the release of their self-titled debut EP, which sold over one million copies, becoming the best selling debut album by a K-pop female act in South Korea since 2011. It won Best K-pop Album at the Korean Music Awards, as well as a number of other accolades, including the Golden Disc Awards, the Melon Music Awards, and the Asia Artist Awards. Their singles album, OMG, was released in January 2023 and went on to be certified triple-platinum.
