Shironamhin, the pioneering force in Bengali progressive rock, traces its origins to Dhaka’s underground music scene in April 1996. Founded by visionary students Ziaur Rahman, Jewel, and Bulbul Hasan, the band embarked on a musical journey that defied conventions and explored the depths of psychedelic and progressive rock. Their avant-garde compositions, marked by multi-instrumental experimentation and philosophical lyricism, quickly earned them acclaim.
With the addition of vocalist Tanzir Tuhin in 2002, Shironamhin solidified its lineup and unleashed a series of groundbreaking albums. Ziaur Rahman emerged as the primary lyricist, shaping the conceptual landscapes of albums like “Jahaji,” “Icche Ghuri,” and “Bondho Janala.” Their self-titled album, “Shironamhin Rabindranath,” paid homage to the literary giant, showcasing their versatility and reverence for Bengali culture.
Despite personal conflicts leading to Tuhin’s departure in 2017, Shironamhin persisted, welcoming Sheikh Ishtiaque as their new vocalist. Their commitment to innovation remained unwavering as they released a string of non-album singles, each pushing the boundaries of Bengali music.
Orchestrating a symphony of sound, Shironamhin seamlessly integrated classical instruments like sarod, cello, and flute into their rock compositions, captivating audiences with their sonic tapestry.
Their sixth album, “Perfume,” released in April 2022, stands as a testament to their enduring legacy and relentless pursuit of musical excellence. Shironamhin’s influence resonates not only in Bangladesh but across the global rock landscape, cementing their status as icons of progressive rock.
