Craig Bellamy is an Australian professional Rugby League football coach and former professional rugby player. Making his debut in 1982 for the Canberra Raiders as a centre main, he made it to England’s first official World Club Challenge in 1989. He joined the Raiders in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership bringing home the victory in 1990. Having played a total of 146 games, Bellamy soon retired in 1992 transitioning into his career as a fierce coach.
He coached the Raiders to a premiership win in 1995 and later won the 1998 National Rugby League [NRL] Grand Final as assistant coach for the Brisbane Broncos. Bellamy later took on the ongoing position as head coach for the Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club in 2003, tightening their strategy and form leading them to the finals for three consecutive years. In 2005 he was selected with representative honors to coach the Country of Origin team.
By 2006 his profound track record earned him the Dally M ‘Coach of The Year’ award, his first of five to come. During this time, he led Melbourne to victory in the minor premiership and another NRL Grand Final. In 2009, Bellamy was named ‘Coach of the Year’ during the Rugby League International Federation Awards. By 2013, he led the team to victory during the intense World Club Challenge earning them the ‘World Champion’ title. Bellamy continues coaching and makes frequent guest appearances on several news stations.
