Duhan van der Merwe is a professional rugby union player for Edinburgh Rugby and the Scotland national rugby union team. He plays as a wing. Van der Merwe’s long-term move to England to play for Worcester Warriors in the Premiership Rugby league ahead of the 2021–22 season was announced on January 4, 2021. On October 5, 2022, all Warriors players had their contracts cancelled as a result of the team going into administration. Van der Merwe’s long-term return to Edinburgh was announced just hours after it was announced that his contract with Worcester Warriors had been terminated.
On October 23, 2020, Van der Merwe played for Scotland in his first game against Georgia and scored a try. He had become eligible for Scotland due to his three years of residence in Edinburgh. On November 14, he scored one of Scotland’s four tries in their triumph over Italy in Florence.
In Scotland’s win against England in the opening game of the 2021 Six Nations Championship, Van Der Merwe scored the game-winning try. He added two more tries against Italy the following month, leading to a 52-10 victory. This was followed by a second brace in the championship match in Paris, the second coming in the 84th minute of action to seal a thrilling come-from-behind victory, Scotland’s first in France since 1999.
