Dwier Brown is an American film and television actor, best known for the classic 1989 film Field of Dreams where he played John Kinsella, with the move seeing Brown star alongside Kevin Costner and Amy Madigan, as well as being nominated for three Oscars – as well as a Saturn Award for Best Writing. Brown played the father of Kevin Costner’s character. Brown has also played Henry Mitchell in Dennis the Menace Strikes Again in 1998. Brown is known for appearing in several horror films, such as House – a 1986 American comedy horror film directed by Steve Miner, produced by Sean S. Cunningham – and The Guardian, directed by William Friedkin, who also directed The Exorcist.
Brown has also appeared in several television series, including Firefly, Criminal Minds and Ghost Whisperer. CBS’s Criminal Minds is best known for having gripping storylines surrounding American police procedurals, and was created and produced by Jeff Davis. Recently, Brown has begun to expand his work to include other arts, such as a memoir entitled If You Build It, which he describes as a book about “fathers, fate and Field of Dreams”. The memoir explores Brown being recognised by dozens of fans who have told him poignant stories about their fathers and how watching the father-son relationship on Field of Dreams changed their perspective. Brown is also a keynote speaker.
