Libertarian and political activist Gavin McInnes is a mover and shaker in the industry. Founder of the forward-thinking arts and culture magazine Vice, entrepreneur and New York resident, McInnes has led an illustrious career to date. Renowned for his often controversial views, McInnes has been labelled as many things, including the “Godfather of hipsterdom” as well as a “far-right provocateur.” Despite his portrayal in the media, McInnes has given a range of TED talks, has appeared in film and television and has a range of published works to his credit.
Since crashlanding onto the publication scene in the early nineties, the Canadian-born McInnes has never strayed away from his beliefs and convictions. Vice magazine was born out of a desire to bring politics, culture and the arts together under a collective banner. There, McInnes made a name for himself and contributed towards the likes of “The VICE Guide to Happiness” and authored “The Vice Guide to Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll.” As McInnes’s star began to soar, his unique sense of tongue-in-cheek humour matched with his edgy attitude began to flourish. From there, McInnes has ruffled feathers in an interview with the New York Press, came clean with The New Yorker and has seemingly caused a stir wherever he goes!
Famed for creating the controversial group “Proud Boys,” McInnes’ influence has gone on to garner much traction in the media. Considered “alt-right,” McInnes has recently cut ties with the group after involvement from the FBI and the internet’s mission to “de-platform” him across the board. A prolific author, McInnes has published the likes of “Black Lies Matter: Why Lies Matter to the Grievance Industry” and “The Death of Cool: From Teenage Rebellion to the Hangover of Cool.” Where comedy clashes with political views, McInnes is far from the norm.
