With his extensive career and memorable ‘pineapple’ hairstyle growing his notoriety and even inspiring a song, former footballer Jason Lee spent twenty-three years delivering reliable performances as a striker to fans all across the UK before retiring from Boston United in 2012.
The over six hundred games he played throughout his career were divided between clubs Charlton Athletic, Lincoln City, Southend United, Nottingham Forest, Watford, Chesterfield, Peterborough United, Notts County, Mansfield Town, and Corby Town amongst many others, as were his one hundred and twenty-five goals. In total, Lee played for nineteen teams.
He contributed ten goals to the championship-winning Watford in the 1997 to 1998 season, captained Notts County for the 2007 to 2008 season, and took on his first full-time team management role at Boston United after his retirement.
In 2013, Lee was announced as the new Equalities Education Executive by the Professional Footballers’ Association. He also provides training in diversity and equality for players as part of a joint effort with the Players’ Union, and tries to help young players establish a roadmap for what they want to achieve in their career and lives. His personal experience in the spotlight has prepared him to discuss the mental and emotional challenges that can go hand in hand with fame, and he wants the next generation to be better prepared to handle them.
