Stargate Atlantis actor Joe Flanigan is also known for his roles in films Thoughtcrimes and Silent Men, and legal drama series First Monday.
Flanigan has starred in plays throughout his life, first during his time at school when he appeared in A Streetcar Named Desire and later at college in Coriolanus. He started taking acting classes, but initially became a writer, working for magazines such as Town & Country and Interview. He then joined the Neighbourhood Playhouse where he trained in acting, and began landing parts in shows including Sisters, Dawson’s Creek and Providence. This led to bigger and more high profile parts including a main role in First Monday and a five year role in Stargate Atlantis. He played the character of Major/Lt Colonel John Sheppard from 2004 to 2009, establishing himself as a mainstream actor and also writing two episodes of the popular sci-fi drama. More television movie roles followed for Flanigan, including in Good Day For It and Ferocious Planet, as well as guest appearances in Women’s Murder Club, Major Crimes and SEAL Team.
Outside of acting, Flanigan has also featured in a contemporary piece of art, Metascifi, in which he and other sci-fi stars give social commentary and discusses the attraction of the action hero.
Most recently, this experienced and versatile actor has had a recurring role in General Hospital as Dr Neil Byrne, and has several exciting projects in the pipeline.
