John J York is a giant of the TV soap opera world, recognised by his hugely loyal fan base playing the role of Malcolm “Mac” Scorpio on the institution that is the TV soap opera General Hospital. General Hospital has been on air since 1963, it is the world’s third longest-running scripted drama series and holds the record for most Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series, with 13 wins. It has spawned a range of spin off shows, such as Port Charles, or General Hospital: Night Shift, for which York reprised his role of Mac Scorpio. Joining the cast of GH in 1991, York has become a staple figure in the cast, and although he has made appearances on such television shows as Dynasty, Family Ties, and 21 Jump Street, York is most recognizable for his work on a staggering 629 episodes of General Hospital. He isn’t just limited to soap operas, as proven with his role as college student Eric Cord on the Fox network television series Werewolf, and his cuter voice work on the hit children’s TV show Pound Puppies.

Outside of his prolific career, York has had his fair share of troubles, as he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at age 15- an event that changed his life, forcing York to abandon his promising sports career and instead head to California to focus on his acting instead. However, his issues deeply affected him, and York is the celebrity spokesperson for the CCFA, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.
