Professional rugby union player Malcolm Marx represents the South African national team and is a hooker for the Lions, Golden Lions and Golden Lions XV.
Having proven himself a star player since his youth, Marx first represented the Golden Lions during 2007 at the U13 Craven Week competition. He then went on to be selected for the South Africa Academy in 2011, the University of Johannesburg 2013 Varsity Cup, the Golden Lions U19 team during the 2013 Provincials Championship and he also represented South Africa in the U20 2014 IRB Junior World Championship. It was, therefore, no surprise that Marx would soon sign for the Golden Lions & The Lions making his senior professional rugby debut during the 2014 Vodacom Cup. Having gone on to play with the prestigious team throughout his career, it was after his excellent performances during the 2017 season that Marx received an impressive number of awards, including Super Rugby player of the Year, Players Player of the Year, Supporters Player of the Year and the Most Valued Player of the Year. Marx remains one of the top try scorers in the Lions history, having achieved a total of 27.
In 2016 Marx went on to make his debut for the South African national team against the England Saxons. He was later selected for the 2016 & 2017 Rugby Championship and was a member of the squad during their successful win during 2019 Rugby World Cup. Renowned as a national hero, Marx has also previously been named South African Rugby Player of the Year.
