Feted by Broadway and praised by the New York Times, actor and opera singer Meghan Picerno is currently captivating audiences in her Broadway debut as Christine Daae, the leading lady in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s timeless The Phantom of the Opera. Hallowed venues are nothing new to Picerno, however, as she has already performed as the prestigious likes of Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Nor is Phantom of the Opera her first association with Andrew Lloyd Webber or the role of Christine; in 2017, she played the role in the world premiere and subsequent tour of Love Never Dies, the long-awaited sequel to one of the most successful musicals ever staged.
Picerno trained at the Manhattan School of Music and graduated with an MM in Voice. Her first major performance came in 2017 at the distinguished Metropolitan Opera House in a production of Candide, a Leonard Bernstein operetta based on the classic Voltaire novel. This was quickly followed by an off-Broadway revival of Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill, a celebration of the influential songwriter. After appearing in The Dreyfus Affair, another off-Broadway play, she was cast in the leading role of Love Never Dies, ensuring her exposure to sold-out audiences. She was so successful in the role that, the following year, Webber invited her to England to perform his songs with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Classic BRIT Awards, held at the Royal Albert Hall.
Having scaled such incredible heights so soon into her career, one can only marvel at what Meghan Picerno will achieve next.
