The President and CEO of the Princess Margaret Foundation, Michael Burns is also the former CEO of the Toronto Invictus Games.
With a Doctorate of Laws from Dalhousie University, Burns has over two decades of experience as an entrepreneur in the finance, technology and marketing industries. The former President of Thornmark Asset Management and Clearsight Wealth Management, in 2015 Burns went on to temporarily leave his role as the Vice President of Corporate Development at AudienceView to take on the role as CEO of the 2017 Toronto Invictus Games. An enormous success, tickets to the games completely sold out and were viewed by over 40 million people internationally. Burns’ dedication also helped to grow the game’s awareness, highlighting the challenges faced by veterans around the world. Having since gone on to continue his passionate work for a number of leading causes, including the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, of which he is the president and CEO. Burns is also the co-founder of the True Patriot Love Foundation, supporting Canadian military veterans and their families. In addition, he is currently on the board of the Canadian Institute for Military & Veteran Health Research.
Honoured for his work with military families, Burns was awarded the Canadian Forces Medallion for Distinguished Service in 2012 and the Meritorious Service Cross by the Queen in 2016. He was also awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and has previously been named as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.
