Pedro Strop is a Dominican baseball pitcher who spent 12 years playing Major League Baseball in America before moving to his current team, the Sultanes de Monterrey in Mexico. He won the 2016 World Series with the Chicago Cubs and the 2013 World Baseball Classic with the Dominican Republic. As well as his undoubted pitching skills, he is widely known for wearing his baseball cap angled to the left while pitching.
Strop was born in San Cristobal in June 1985. His American baseball career began in 2002 when he was signed as an international free agent by the Colorado Rockies. He spent si years signed to the club, mostly playing for their minor-league affiliates. Originally signed as a shortstop, it was during this period that he became a pitcher. After being released by the Rockies, he was signed up by the Texas Rangers in September 2008 and they granted him his MLB debut the following year. In 2011, he joined the Baltimore Orioles. After a strong start with them, he endured a trying relationship with the fans and ended up being traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2013.
Strop settled well at the Cubs and enjoyed some of the best form of his career. He also played 54 games during their 2016 World Series-winning season, posting an ERA of 2.85. He remained with them until the close of the 2019 season when he was signed by the Cincinnati Reds in a one-year, $1.8 million deal. After a brief return to the Cubs, he signed with the Sultanes de Monterrey in June 2021.
