The incredible athlete Phillip Evans is a professional baseball infielder, who plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates of MLB. He has also played for the Mexico national baseball team.
Born and raised in Whittier, California, Evans started playing baseball as a child. He was a true natural at the sport, and although he had committed to play college baseball at San Diego State University, he was recruited straight out of High School by the New York Mets in the 15th round of the 2011 MLB Draft. He made his professional debut the same year in the Minor Leagues. In 2012 he played for the Brooklyn Cyclones, building up a solid reputation. He played for the Savannah Sand Gnats the following year, and spent 2014 with the St. Lucie Mets.
2016 proved to be a breakout season for Evans, seeing him promoted to the Birmingham Mets, for whom he played 96 games and led the Eastern League in average. In 2017 he played for the Las Vegas 51s, and in September that year he was called up to the majors to play for the New York Mets. In December 2018 he signed a minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs, and started 2019 playing for the Iowa Cubs. Then in December 2019 he signed a minor league deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
On the international side, he played with the Mexico national team at the 2019 WBSC Premier12 in Tokyo, winning a Bronze medal.
