Richard Cabrel is an actor, producer and writer who is best known for his career-defining roles depicting gang members with a sensitivity difficult to achieve with the dark subject matter. His most iconic roles in television include in CSI: Miami, as Johnny Cruz in Mayans M.C. and as Hector Tontz on American Crime, created by Academy Award winner John Ridley. The latter role earned Cabrel a Primetime Emmy nomination, as well as numerous praise for his authentic portrayal. Cabrel has also appeared in Grammy Award winner Bruno Mars’ music video for smash-hit single “Grenade”.
Cabrel’s filmography includes Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, End of Watch and Windows of the World – which won countless awards including the Directors Choice Award for Best Humanitarian Film by the Sedona International Film Festival. Cabrel is also a producer, having worked on short Secret Love, and feature film Khali the Killer in which he also starred. Cabrel has also co-written a one man show with Robert Egan – about his former experience as an incarcerated gang member – called Fighting Shadows.
When Cabrel is not dominating the film industry with his intense performances, he is giving back to his community at Homeboy Industries, a rehabilitation program for former gang members that gave him crucial work experience and helped him land his first acting role. Cabrel won the Lo Maximo award from Homeboy Industries, which honours graduates of the programme who give back to the community. He is also a talented poet.
