Famously rejected on Dragon’s Den in 2006, Rob Law has gone on to build a multi-million pound business from his product, Trunki. He is now an in-demand speaker and businessman.
Law has a first class degree in Product Design, as well as a varied career history with international postings in New York, Australia and Taiwan. He has worked for some of the UK’s leading design consultancies, before setting up his own business in 2006 with his innovative children’s travel product Trunki. He featured on TV programme Dragon’s Den, where he pitched his product for investment from the Dragons. His pitch went well until Theo Paphitis broke his product and the panel became skeptical of the ride-on suitcase’s quality. Law was determined to succeed with his business, and has since gone on to have a head office employing 30 people in Bristol, as well as a team of 50 at his manufacturing and distribution plant in Plymouth. He is a leader in the British manufacturing industry, and has won over 120 awards in the design, trade, consumer and business sectors. The range of products his business sells has grown from one suitcase to a number of children’s travel solutions, and he has been responsible for the creation of this brand new retail sector.
It is no surprise that Law now delivers talks and online business advice. He holds a position on a number of design and business boards, including on the Design Council Spark Investment Panel, and as a board member for the Faculty of Business and Management at the University of the West of England. In 2011 he was awarded an MBE for services to business.
