World cup gold medallist Sofia Prosvirnova is a talented short track speed skater who has represented Russia at two Winter Olympic Games. She is a three-time winner of the European Youth Winter Olympic Festival and took the bronze medal in the relay at the junior World Championship. At the 2017 European Championships in Turin, Italy, she won Gold in the individual 1000m, Silver in the 1500m, Silver in the all-around and bronze in the 3000m. In 2019 she won three gold medals at the World Cup stage in the individual 1000m and two relay races, and took bronze in the 1500m at the World Short Track Championship.
Born in Saint Petersburg, Prosvirnova first tried figure skating between the ages of five and 12, before switching to short track in 2010. She was invited to join the Russian junior national team and in 2014 was invited to join the Olympic team.
She made her Olympic debut at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , competing in the 500m and 1000m events and narrowly missing out on the medal podium in the 3000m relay. She represented Russia again at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018, and later in the year won silver in the 1000m at the 2018 Montreal World Championships. Prosvirnova now has her sights fixed on reaching her third Winter Olympic Games in Beijing in 2022.
