Joey Bizinger is an Australian-Japanese content creator and social media star better known to his enormous online following as The Anime Man. His solo YouTube channel, with its heaps of high-quality, anime-related content, has more than 3.3 million subscribers. He also has a further 2 million followers across Instagram, Twitch and Twitter. His success has seen him relocate from his native Australia to Japan, becoming full-time anime influencer and one-third of the Trash Taste podcast team alongside British-born Gigguk and CDawgVA.
Bizinger was born in Sydney in September 1994. His Japanese mother was determined that he should be immersed in his heritage, speaking to him in Japanese and introducing him to anime at a very young age. This helped to shape his career path as, in high school, he became known as an authority on anime. Recommending the best series to his peers led to him launching his first website as part of a school project. The website continued after the project had ended, and Bizinger slowly began making YouTube videos for it before eventually deciding to switch exclusively to YouTube.
In 2015, Bizinger got his breakthrough when his ‘Seven Types of Anime Fan’ video went viral. A year later, having graduated from university, he moved to Japan and soon found himself guesting in popular YouTube series by other creators, launching a music career (he has released two albums), and becoming a voice actor. In 2020, he helped to launch the Trash Taste podcast, which has been running successfully ever since, discussing all aspects of Otaku, anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture in a fun and relatable way.
