Talented young Norwegian skier Thea Minyan Bjorseth is making a name for herself in two areas: ski jumping and Nordic combined skiing. Since competing in her first international event at the age of 12, she has become a fixture of the Norwegian national skiing scene, winning a stunning total of 11 national medals in just two years. At the 2020 Ski Jumping Junior World Championships in Germany, she won two silver medals. Still in her teens, she has clearly marked herself out as a serious contender.
Bjorseth was born in 2003 and took up skiing at an early age. She began making a name for herself in the Norwegian Combined Skiing Youth Cup, achieving successive top-ten finishes. In 2018, she won her first major national medals: two gold for ski-jumping and silver and two bronze in Nordic combined. The following year, she won another gold for ski-jumping and a further five silver and bronze for Nordic combined. August 2019 also saw her compete in her first Nordic combined Grand Prix, a series of four races featuring some of the world’s best competitors. Bjorseth finished an incredible joint-12th from a field of over 25 racers.
In 2020, Bjorseth took her success to the next level with her individual and team silvers at the Junior World Championships. She also took part in her first Winter Youth Olympics in Lausanne. Competing in the Nordic combined event, she finished first in the ski-jumping but seventh in the cross-country event, the latter being the event that determines overall finishing positions. However, if one person is set for future Olympic glory, it’s Thea Minyan Bjorseth
