Vernice Armour is a widely recognised former United States Marine Corps officer who is well known for becoming the first African-American female naval aviator and combat pilot in the Marine Corps and U.S. Army. During Armour’s career, she served two tours in Iraq and is known to have flown the AH-1W SuperCobra attack helicopter.
Armour joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 1993, while she was a student in Tennessee. Armour is a woman of many firsts; becoming the first African-American female to serve as a police officer in Tempe, Arizona, became the first African-Amercian woman on the motorcycle squad when she served as a Nashville police officer and eventually became the first African-American Marine Corps’ female pilot. When Armour flew with HMLA-169 in Iraq, she became the first African-American female combat pilot, completing two tours in the Gulf.

An admired entrepreneur, Armour has launched VAI Consulting and Training and through applying her knowledge and determination, successfully scaled the business to six-figures with in the first year and 5 million within half a decade.
