Ze Frank is a widely recognised American online performance artist, comedian, composer and public speaker. Frank rose to prominence in 2001 when a video he created, titled How to Dance Properly, went viral and sent thousands of people to his website. Following this, he has continued to create online content and has taken the world by storm with his projects, influencing a digital generation. Frank is known internationally for many of his shows including The Show (2006) and A Show (2012).
In 2002, Frank was awarded a Webby Award for Best Personal Website and was featured in Time Magazine’s list of 50 Coolest Websites in 2005. Frank established his wildly popular YouTube channel in 2006 and the channel has since grown rapidly, boasting over 2.7 million subscribers in 2019. In 2006, Frank’s video blog titled The Show with Ze Frank was hailed as ‘the best sustained comedy run in the history of the web’ by Slate.com.
Frank is known for his audience participation, and works closely with his online audience, on one occasion prompting them to write the show for him in his Fabuloso Friday show. In 2008, Frank launched a game on Twitter titled Colowars, featuring two months of competitions. Outside of his online empire, Frank acts as a public speaker on the topic of virtual life and assumes the role of consultant to several businesses and industries, sharing his theories on audience engagement.
