Commanding defender – Phil Babb, was a Republic of Ireland International and mainstay in the top flight of English football. Babb won the League Cup with Liverpool, then the Primeira Liga and Taca de Portugal with Sporting CP. The centre back also appeared 35 times for his home nation, even representing them in the 1994 World Cup.
During Babb’s glittering career, he made over 370 league appearances. In the peak of his playing days, the reliable figure spent six Premier League seasons with Liverpool, becoming a firm favourite with the Kop. The icon made 170 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool after signing for a then British record transfer fee. He scored his one goal for the Reds against his former club, Coventry. While at Liverpool he played in the thrilling 1995 Football League Cup Final, with his name now etched into Liverpool’s footballing history. Babb also played in the top flight for Coventry City and Sunderland, showcasing his desire to only play among the best in the world. As well as playing at the top of the English footballing pyramid, Babb enjoyed a highly successful spell in Portugal for Sporting CP and graced the football league for Bradford City and Tranmere Rovers.
With vast experience in the beautiful game, Babb is now a regular guest on Sky Sports for the Premier League Daily show, as well as doing punditry for international games featuring the Republic of Ireland. He is also a regular guest on Liverpool FC’s television channel – LFC TV. Babb’s captivating personality has now paved the way for a successful career in television.
